Asiatic lion counting in 2020-15th Lion Census

Gujarat is now home for 674 Asiatic lions, an increase of 151 lions from its previous count of 523
lions in 2015. This was 15 th census since first census in 1936. At present lion is found in six
districts-Junagadh, Gir-Somanath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Surendranagar. Of the 674 lions
counted during the exercise, 260 were females, 161males, 93sub-adults and 137 cubs. Of the 93
subadults, 49 were females, 45 males while sex of remaining22 could not be determined.
